High oxygen and SNG injection in blast furnace ironmaking with Power to Gas integration and CO2 recycling

In the last years, reduction of CO2 emissions from steel industry has been great importance. Carbon capture, oxygen blast furnaces and top gas recycling technologies, among others, have deeply studied as low carbon solutions. this paper, a novel integration capture power to technologies in steelmaking is presented. Green hydrogen via proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) scrubbing furnace (BFG) are used produce synthetic natural an isothermal fixed bed methanation plant. The latter injected into furnace, closing loop reducing coal consumption. by-produced electrolyser covers entire demand plant avoids need for air separation unit (ASU). novelty work relies on variation enrichment its temperature hot blast, how it influences concept. This compared with conventional BF-BOF technical, economic, energy environmental point view. Both process configurations were implemented Aspen Plus simulations, assessing fossil fuel demand, penalty, cost emissions. Emission up 34% can be achieved integration, penalty 17 MJ/tHM 352 €/tCO2.
